Raiders coach Jason Buckman says signing Canadian forward Shaun Miller was "key" for the 2025-26 National League season.

The 26-year-old returns for a second campaign in gold and blue, having enjoyed a very successful debut season in the UK.

Miller picked up the Supporters' Player of the Year, Top Forward and Top Scorer awards and was shortlisted for the NIHL National Player of the Year Award, while also being selected to the first all-star line.

In 60 appearances in all competitions for Raiders, Miller scored 123 points (55 goals, 68 assists) - the highest individual tallies for Raiders for 12 years - which takes him into the club's all-time top 50 scorers.

And Buckman said: “Getting Millsy back was key this season. After his success last year he was a sought-after player by every team in the league.

"Speaking with him throughout summer it became clear he loves playing in Romford and it was an easy decision for him to make in the end.

"I’m looking forward to working with him when he returns to the UK.”

Miller's return comes after the club also announced a two-way deal for young goalie Max van Mullem.

The 17-year-old will again share duties for the Romford Buccaneers with Sonny Phillips, 28, in Division One South, while working alongside Raiders duo Cole Ceci and Owen Rider.

Buckman added: "It's really important to retain young talent like Max, talented British goalies are few and far between.

"He will learn so much alongside Owen and Cole and I can only see him going from strength to strength this year."

Former Raiders goalie Ethan James, meanwhile, has been announced as the new coach of the Buccaneers, after a u-turn by Alan Blyth.

He said: "I'm looking forward to taking on this new role and helping the team to develop in the upcoming season.

"I'm sure it will come with its challenges but I can't wait to get pre-season underway and see what this season brings."

A club statement added: “It’s great to have Ethan onboard and still involved in Romford Ice Hockey club.

"Ethan brings a wealth of playing experience and we know he will be successful in his first coaching role.

"Ethan has great hockey knowledge and we are looking forward to see what he can achieve behind the bench.”
